Our Animal Hospital is Dedicated to Exotic Pets

A bright yellow lizard

As our name suggests, Texas Avian & Exotic Hospital is a clinic specifically for exotic species. Our facility is one of the largest animal hospitals dedicated exclusively to birds and exotic pets, not only in Grapevine or Texas, but in the entire country. What's more, Texas Avian & Exotic Hospital is part of a much larger referral hospital complex which contains seven (!) other specialty practices. So, if we ever need to consult with an expert in the fields of surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, critical care, or dentistry... well, they're all just a few steps away. We even have an animal physical therapist on site!

Our vets are highly experienced in the field of avian and exotic species (and they’re famous, too). Your extraordinary pets have different needs than traditional pets, and there’s no one who knows that better than us. We treat species ranging from birds to reptiles, small mammals, primates, and even fish! Whether you’re an owner looking for the best care for your pet or a veterinarian looking to refer your exotic patients for specialized care, we’re the vet for you.

What It Takes to Become a Board Certified Specialist

We are highly specialized experts in the field of avian, small mammal, and exotic care. All of our veterinarians are board-certified specialists, or on the path towards becoming board-certified. At Texas Avian & Exotic Hospital, our mission includes training the next generation of avian, small mammal, and reptile specialists.

The path to becoming board certified in reptile, bird, and exotic companion mammal medicine and surgery is a long one. After completing veterinary school and earning a degree, our doctors must spend 2 years in a formal internship, followed by at least 2 years in a formal residency program. During this time, the veterinarians are gaining additional education and expertise in their chosen specialty. They must submit case reports and case logs during their residency and only after approval may they then take the comprehensive exam which is the final step in their journey to board-certification.

At Texas Avian & Exotic Hospital, we offer both formal internships and residency programs. We are proud of our involvement in training veterinary professionals and helping them on the road to board certification. You can rest assured that your pet is in great hands with our team of highly trained and skilled veterinarians!
